PRAISING GOD THROUGH MUSIC
Bells and Band
Westminster has an adult handbell choir, open to Youth and Adults, that rehearses on Wednesday evenings. The choir plays on the third Sunday service each month September through April.
Westminster also has a contemporary Christian band that rehearses on Monday evenings. The band plays once a month, accompanies hymns at additional services and plays at other occasions on request, such as church picnics and fellowship gatherings.
The Chancel Choir at Westminster is open to those with a love of choral singing, a desire to use their voices to praise God and to lead others in worship. The choir is made up of singers with a wide age range and musical experience; including singers as young as high school, choosing to sing with the church choir in addition to singing in their high school band and choir, those having degrees in music and retired musicians who have spent their adult life singing in church choir and community choirs. The choir sings music from a variety of styles, including anthems by popular church composers such as Gilbert Martin, Craig Courtney and Dan Forrest. Additionally, the choir will present music from the Classical music canon, including chorales from Johann Sebastian Bach and anthems from British composers such as John Stainer. The choir also incorporates diverse styles such as gospel and spiritual pieces as well as music in different languages from around the world.
The Chancel Choir meets each Wednesday from 7:00-8:30 and at 10:45 Sunday morning. In addition to Sunday morning worship, the choir leads music for special services, including Hanging of the Greens, Lessons and Carols and Christmas Eve in the Advent season and Maundy Thursday and a Good Friday Tenebrae service during the Easter season.
The choir is under the direction of Dr. Stefanie Cash. Cash also serves as Director of Music Education at Berry College and has experience leading choirs at the middle school, high school and collegiate levels. She holds a Ph.D. in music education with an emphasis in choral conducting from Florida State University, as well as degrees from the University of Kentucky and Morehead State University. She lives in Rome with her husband, Courtney, and their four-year-old daughter, Caroline.
Anyone interested in information about the choir can contact Stefanie at firstname.lastname@example.org or come and sit in a rehearsal on Wednesday evening.
